Culture Guide September 17 – 23

There’s no holding back for this week’s Culture Guide. Get immersed in figure and shape, or turn the whole thing on its head via performance, sound and, let’s be real, party!

The Centenary Exhibition: A Retrospective

Starting things off on a lighter note, this exhibition celebrates a hundred years of architecture at Sydney University. With the profession no longer simply about erecting the finest buildings, the exhibition uses site-specific installation to highlight the interdisciplinarity of architecture and its often by chance nature. Mason Kimber: Slanted Mansions

For another perspective on how architecture structures our ideas of place, emerging artist Mason Kimber uses silicone sculptures to reflect on his time in Manila. Also drawing on the studio environment Kimber works in in Sydney, the works are both hard structures, and hand crafted impressions.

St O’Donnell Select Gallery

You probably already know we’re pretty excited about this one. The team from St O’Donnell have assembled an incredible line up of diverse artists, musicians and performers who will turn the Backyard Opera studios into a one-night art extravaganza. With music curated by Nadine Marjan of Sisters with Soul and art assembled by Amy Roser of Art Pharmacy, expect to meet and see art and artists who will broaden your tastes and widen your scope.

Soft Centre

Proving that art has no boundaries in 2018, Soft Centre returns for their second event. A night of performance art, sound and visual design, the event invites us to question how art has been siloed into categories and what could occur when these disparate mediums are brought together.
