With this mix from Sisters With Soul, Nadine Marjan and Tanya Rahme - also known as MissTanya - give us a schooling in funk, jazz, and, of course, soul. Taking inspiration from some of the greats, Marjan and Rahme show us how these influences run through to contemporary artists who are still innovating in this genre. Smoothly sliding from one groove to the next, all with a careful consideration of vocalists, this mix will have you grooving all day.
Starting us off with Philadelphia vocalist Jaguar Right’s ‘The What If’s’, the Sisters then seamlessly bring in NZ-born but London based Jordan Rakei, before transitioning back to the masters of this genre with Phonte dropping narrative-rich verses over the Miles Davis and Robert Glasper groove.
Marjan and Rahme demonstrate their skill of keeping abreast of the latest artistic endeavours in this field, throwing in the most recently released track from Melbourne’s Kaiit, ‘Og Luv Kush pt. 2’, barely a month off the press, and with hype already building around this future-soul and RnB prodigy.
We head more into hip-hop territory with LA rapper Terrace Martin lending his vocals to ‘One Night’ by 9th Wonder before A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘Excursions’ slides into the mix.
The dynamic Sydney duo are no strangers to assembling the finest of the global musicians within the funk, soul, and hip hop genres. Their monthly podcast, The Lovecast, is an unmissable monthly hour of perfectly selected vibes.
This month, we’re lucky enough to host Marjan and Rahme and their selection of Sydney’s finest as part of St O’Donnell’s Select Gallery. Head over to https://events.humanitix.net/st-o-donnell-s-select-gallery-005 to pick up some of the last few tickets on offer.
