Bermuda Bloom consist of Luke Davis: vocals/guitar; Dave Hutchinson: guitars; John Coyne: bass; Casey Allan: drums. Dan from BYO was invited by the group to their show at The Vic On The Park, Marrickville on Thursday 31st August 2017.

I left with my ears ringing, my feet slightly sore, and my back cold and sweaty. This is what happens when you dance really intensely in the middle of Winter in a warm, inner-west pub. It’s also what Sydney-based funk rock quartet Bermuda Bloom will make you want to do with ease.

The band had a cool, laid-back vibe, yet up-tempo with solid precision. Songs like Calypso boasted a hectic upbeat syncopated rhythm for an unrelenting near 10 minutes. Here, the band were focused while singer Davis shifted boisterously about the stage -  the singer’s falsetto in the songs hooky chorus a reminder that white folk can play funk. Encompassing the set was a deep affection for speed and rhythm; basically, how much of each you can physically inject into a musical moment. On the night, such proved to be a drunken joy as punters hit the VB and Newtowner hard whilst getting footloose.

**DEMO** Calypso is the hot summer spray from the ocean to your face, the blast of air you chase when you first step off that plane, the exotic summer fruits that are always gone too soon, that festival summer kiss you dream of when you drift and hope you've not missed. Literally, Calypso is about mangoes. This is an ode to mangoes and I love them. When summer is gone, mangoes are what I yearn for. So go on, Calypso is about whatever it is you're yearning for. Recorded at John's and Casey's houses. 2017
