“Volumes” is a multi-venue festival taking place this weekend, with hopes of reminding Sydney of its alive and vibrant music scene. This years line up is set between three of Sydney’s favourite haunts: Oxford Art Factory, The Cliff Dive and Brighton Up. This ears line up includes the likes of Hideous Sun Demon, Shady Nasty, Matka, Bus Vipers, Gauci and many more. For who’s where and when and also, how much:
See: Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival
Between the 18th and 27th of August, the Auburn Botanic Gardens will become a beautifully pink Japanese garden, with the Cherry Blossom coming in to bloom. The festival will give you a chance to view the trees as well as indulge in some Jap-love, with entertainment over two stages, including Sumo wrestling, J-pop (who doesn’t love J-pop) and origami Workshops. Of course, there will be food, with trucks dishing out bentos, gyoza and okonomiyaki. Go check it out:
Chew: Ferragosto: Italian Street Festival
Head to five dock this Sunday for all things Italiano, with the Ferragosto Italian Street Festival. You can expect Italian food, wine, and music, with the festival showcasing the best of the local community. To mark the 20th year of Ferragosto, there will be over 300 stalls of food, wine and wares, alongside cooking demonstrations from local chefs and rides for the kids. In Sydney this weekend, Parramatta’s Riverside Theatres will play host to the Arab Film Festival. This year features a number of films, docos and award winning shorts. Some of the films include, “Mahbas”, “The Goat and Ibrahim”, and a documentary about Palestinian Surfers, “Gaza Surf Club”. Sydneysiders will also get the chance to catch “Ali’s Wedding”, ahead of its nationwide release on August 31st. “Ali’s Wedding” which was featured at this year’s Sydney Film Festival.
