Nikon Photo Contest 2018-2019

Greeting to the Sun - Annamaria Bruni

Change, identity and hope. Summing up 2018 in three words are the categories for this year’s Nikon Photo Contest.

Having run since 1969, this year’s themes are connected to the three categories that photographers can submit to. The open category is marked by the theme change, while the next generation category – for photographers under 25 – coalesces around the theme of identity. For those with a dynamic bent to their work, the short film category is accepting submissions under the theme of hope.

Head judge Neville Brody said, “we are looking to you, to inspire us, to give us new thoughts and to give us new information of ideas about the world.”

Brody leads a judging panel of six, with more to be announced soon, who will review the entries and award 45 gold, silver and bronze awards in total. Entrants from around the world can apply, and since its inception over 410 000 photographers have submitted over 1 620 000 works. Last year, 21 5111 photographers from 170 counties submitted 76 356 works, representing the greatest diversity of origin of entrants in the history of the prize.

Keen participants have until January 31, 2019 to submit their work. Aiming to grow the way in which we envision the world around us, the Nikon Photo Contest represents the shining lights of our image saturated world.
