Single of the Week: Murlo & Conducta “Together”

Manchester based producer and visual artist Murlo launches his new imprint ‘Coil Records’ with a garage stomper – the result of a studio partnership with Conducta.

One of the signs of a great producer is that you can always identify one of their songs even if you’ve never heard it before. Whether he is making grime or garage, soca or dancehall, collaborating with other artists or solo, you can always pick a Murlo track. His intricate percussion, complex melodies and blend of genres make Murlo one of the most unique producers around today. ‘Together’ is no different. Bassline style chipmunk vocals open the track before it drops into a 4x4 garage beat driven by a wonky bass line. After the break down it switches into 2-step territory while Murlo’s trademark synth sounds playfully weave in and out.

After building up a solid following in British bass music scenes, Murlo struck gold with his remixes of  ‘Work’ by Rihanna and ‘Naila’ by AJ Tracey. His most recent UK tour saw him combine his music and visual work into a spectacular live show, selling out venues along the way. Coil Records seemed like a logical next move for an artist who says that he’d always wanted to start a record label.

“…I feel like now is the perfect time. I’m really looking forward to having the freedom to drop music whenever I feel like it, and getting more of my visual work into the world too” explains Murlo.

While there is not yet any official announcements of forthcoming releases, Murlo has been spotted in the studio with Fractal Fantasy’s Sinjin Hawke and Zora Jones as well as flex dance music pioneer Epic B. ‘Together’ gives us a taste of what we can look forward to from Coil Records.
