Mix of the Week: Millos Kaiser

Mix of the Week: Millos Kaiser

The man with the deepest record crates in Brazil takes us on a trip around the world in this globetrotting mix for Crown Ruler.

Millos Kaiser is one half of Sao Paulo duo Selvagem with Augusto Olivani. Together they DJ, produce, put on parties in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo and run the Selva Discos record label dedicated to reissuing overlooked Brazilian music. As promoters they have brought heavy hitters such as Antal, Matias Aguayo, Optimo and Quantic to play shows in Brazil. As artists they have become well respected in the vinyl digging scene which has seen them perform a number of shows across Europe and North America, including appearances at festivals such as Dekmantel and Full Moon Fest in New York.

While living in Rio de Janeiro I was lucky enough to attend a number of parties put on by Selvagem. The parties were inclusive and everything from the unusual locations to the artist curation to the music selection demonstrated a commitment to ensuring a good time for everyone.

This mix shows many of those same values. Many of the songs played are Kaiser’s own personal finds and it is clear much thought went into the curation of the mix. Slowly increasing in tempo throughout, the mix begins with a selection of rare Brazilian funk and boogie, Antillean zouk and other regional styles. As the pace picks up we’re treated to South African bubble-gum pop, West African disco, classic house and the occasional unreleased, forthcoming track from his mates.

Selvagem’s artist bio states that they believe in free-associative thinking when it comes to music and this mix is a perfect example of that philosophy. Perfect for any occasion, sit back and let Kaiser take you to all corners of the globe.
