Over the weekend, local legends and one of the most exciting businesses to arrive on the Australian music scene in some time, Astral People, celebrated their 4th birthday with a secret event for guests in an underground carpark in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.
With performances scheduled throughout the day, the line-up featured some of Australia’s most credible emerging live acts including Melbourne’s G L, C assius S elect, C ollarbones and Moon Holiday, alongside renowned DJ’s; Mike Who, Ben Fester , Preacha and a string of other guests.
Advertised to the public as a secret gig with few details given, the event was held in the underground carpark of ibis H otel in Darling Harbour, an opportunity the hotel group welcomed with Bridie Commerford, VP of Marketing and Communications commenting: “ ibis Hotels have worked incredibly hard to develop an offering that today’s young music fans will enjoy, supporting events such as this and the Australian music scene is important for us. We want to support the local industry by working with select partners in using our locations for varying and exclusive events, offering music fans something truly unique”.
From the early afternoon live acts, to the sundown sets of some of the later DJ’s, the Astral roster delivered a floorless afternoon of music for over 800 satisfied punters and friends. The positive energy and seemingly overwhelming amount of gratitude displayed from well-behaved punters was hard to ignore, albeit a worthy show of praise to ibis for pushing the cultural envelope and bringing something truly unique to the city.
With a boutique offering of food, wine, beer and cider available on the day, the experience was well rounded by anyone’s standards, and a step in the right direction for Sydney’s cultural scene.
Part of a series of music initiatives for ibis Hotels around the country including a range of partnerships with local industry, in-hotel music streaming offering, a dedicated music content platform by way of IbisPLAY which contains gig info, music news, giveaways and special offers for the music fan; the Australian music community knows that genuine support is high
on the agenda for the ibis Hotel group going forward.
