Wollongong’s finest purveyors of parties, culture and creativity - Yours & Owls, have announced the celebrations for their 5th birthday. As can only be expected, they have certainly not disappointed. Announcing an expansion to an entire ‘Festival Weekender’, it is the newest camping festival on the scene for NSW and will be the biggest event to ever hit the coastline just shy of Sydney.
The festival takes place on the Labour Day Weekend (October 2 & 3) with the festival kicking off proceedings on Friday, the opening night seeing a combination of live music, art and film. Long-time favourites Ash Grunwald and Shining Bird will be taking to the stage, in addition to special screenings of Tribeca award winning Jazz doco ‘Keep On Keeping On’ and cult classic surf film ‘Bunyip Dreaming’ with a live performance of the newly reworked soundtrack by Russel. W & the Five Islands.
The real party begins however on Saturday with a bill that sees an incredible combination of our home grown buzz acts of 2015, the anticipated return to the live circuit for some of the biggest acts of the past few years, bands who have been recently killing it internationally, and even some international acts. These include in alphabetical order: Bahamas (Canada), Cloud Control, The Delta Riggs, Gang of Youths, The Pinheads, The Preatures, The Rubens, , Saskwatch, Salmonella Dub Sound System (NZ), and The Smith Street Band.
If the prospect of all that going down right next to a beach, somehow hasn’t got you frantically making a Facebook event for your mates to attend with you, then potentially mind blowing art installations, projections, and the finest food the South has to offer should do so, and still if not the n the $85 price tag for the entire weekend should do the trick.
For anyone thinking of a mini road-trip down, they have got camping packages available as mentioned earlier. What excuse could you possibly have now?
