Russian master of edits Lipelis gets down with a funky mix that will be sure to warm you up during these cold winter days.

The current trend in dance music of seeking obscure tracks often from non-western countries and usually with a funk and boogie tilt has attracted its fair share of controversy. Opinions are divided as to whether DJs such as Hunee and Antal deserve the plaudits they receive or if they are taking kudos away from the original creators of records they uncover.

Whatever side of the argument you sit on, there is no doubt that these artists have helped shine a light on forgotten corners of the world and their unique musical histories. There is also no doubt that when you hear a mix in this style executed to perfection then you’re in for a raging good time.

Russian DJ Lipelis is one artist who has mastered this style. His latest release I Only Did These For Myself, But Now It's For Everyone contains tracks that he was convinced to release by Australia’s own Animals Dancing record label. It’s aptly titled given the propensity for secrecy around track IDs and DJ’s preferences for keeping a few secret weapons unreleased.

No doubt Lipelis still has a few tunes he keeps to himself based on the number of ID requests on this mix and the failure of Spotify to identify much. It’s heavy on tracks from around the globe covering countless languages as it jumps between styles ranging from disco to electro. Saxophone solos are shaping up as the hottest thing in dance music right now and this mix is certainly heavy on them, especially as it reaches its peak.

If you do enjoy mixes like this, remember to support the original creators of the tracks however you can.
