Release of the Week 8/11: Planet Vegeta “Jorja”

Neon Records are some of the biggest international artists’ management down under, promoting big names like Skrillex, Milky Chance and Rudimental to Australians. However, they also promote their own homegrown talent and this week’s release sees the debut single of Planet Vegeta. This Western Sydney hip hop trio consists of SVNO, LKGD and Jazz NOBODI. Their brand new single is called “Jorja” and is a perfect introduction to the soulful melodies, lo-fi beats and hip hop bars of this unique new talent.

Compared to most Western Sydney rap, Planet Vegeta have instantly separated themselves from the pack. There is nothing hard or intense about their sound, with a relaxed vibe giving them an easy-to-listen-to quality. The track combines a deep bouncy bass with bright wobbly synths to create a strong lo-fi/electronica tone. As the tightly produced percussion comes in with a syncopated beat, it gives the sound enough energy to pull it from a downbeat sad song into a chill hip hop track. Each of the trio gets some time to shine and showcase their strengths. One is the heavy rapper, laying down the strong rhythmic rapping, while another is the soft, soulful singer, giving some silky smooth melodies to warm the ears. The third is a combination between the two, using a more melodic form of rapping to create a catchy hook, which playfully borrows from Ray Charles’ legendary “Georgia On My Mind.” The three of them combine to create an eclectic and diverse flow, bouncing between genres and incorporating multiple influences. The result is a track that is able to remain unique and clear in its sound, perfectly introducing Planet Vegeta.

Just like the DragonBall Z planet they’re named after, these three are sure to blow up. Be sure to check out their debut single here: https://ffm.to/pvjorja
