Cosmo’s Midnight Release New Track Ahead of Festival Appearances

Cosmo’s Midnight have released a hot new collaboration ahead of some major festival appearances. The production duo from Sydney have released “Down For You”, a bright pop track featuring none other than Sydney’s hottest prospect, Ruel. The seventeen-year-old Brit’s voice works in perfect synergy with mellow, indie vibe of Cosmo’s Midnight. As their first release of 2020, “Down For You” is soulful, upbeat and exciting, with bright instrumentation, funky rhythms and subtle R&B hints on the vocals.
The track was released only two days before Cosmo’s Midnight made a surprise appearance at St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival on the 2nd Feb during Ruel’s set. In the pouring rain, the three debuted the track live to an overwhelmingly positive reception, making the exhausted crowd momentarily forget about the wet weather. The surprise Laneway appearance is actually the end of a two-year story between Ruel and Cosmo’s Midnight. In 2018, Cosmo’s Midnight invited Ruel onto their Groovin The Moo set as a guest vocalist. Since then Ruel has gone on to find huge success, being named the ARIA’s Best Breakthrough Artist that same year. Now in 2020, it has come full circle.
Cosmo’s Midnight say of the track: "We met Ruel a few years ago at Groovin The Moo. He joined us on stage for an impromptu on-stage collab. We immediately knew we had to write a song together. The stars didn’t align until a year later, but we made up for lost time and wrote ‘Down For You’. In the studio we were basically talking about how you do things you don’t want to for people you - like ala Bobby Caldwell ‘What You Won’t Do’ - and it all flowed from there. We had the song basically done that day, but had to back n forth a bit to finesse the details. Ruel’s a great guy and has a taste in music that would make 17 yo Cosmo’s Midnight a bit envious. It was a wholesome experience getting to know him and write ‘Down For You’ together."
Ruel says of the track: “Was so much fun writing this one with the boys. The song kinda wrote itself in the session we had. We all felt like we really related to the story we wrote. So happy to finally have a song out with Cosmo and Pat, love u guys.”
The smash release of “Down For You” didn’t just build anticipation for their Laneway appearance, but for the many festivals in Cosmo Midnight’s immediate future. This weekend, they will be playing at the Party in the Paddock Festival in Tasmania, before heading to Adelaide for O'Fiesta 2020. “Down For You” also follows the recent announcement that Cosmo’s Midnight will be headlining this year’s Bad Friday Weekender, taking the top spot on Saturday 11th April in Sydney.
