Everyone has their favourite cocktail, but from June 4 to 10, the negroni should be yours. Restaurants and bars across Sydney and the world are joining forces with Campari and Imbibe Magazine to celebrate this unique 99-year-old cocktail and with donations to a charitable cause, what other excuse do you need to get out there and have one?
The negroni was invented by Count Camillo Negroni in Florence in 1919 and was later so loved by Ernest Hemingway that he named one of his nine dogs after the drink. Throughout the week, a portion of Negroni related sales will go towards a charity elected by each bar and Campari Australia will match the donation of the highest donating individual venue (to a max $5,000). Last year’s event involved 7700 venues in 60 countries around the world, raising $1.5 million.
Merivale venues across Sydney including J&M, Charlie Parker’s and Palmer & Co. will be mixing specially crafted Negronis to represent the character of each bar. Signature cocktails include Charlie Parker’s Strawberry & Balsamic with Campari; Strawberry Gum infused pisco and saline infused balsamic vinegar powder. Palmer & Co’s The Mont Blanc Summit, with the delightful addition of Apricot Brandy or J&M’s Caffe Casoni, with burnt coffee and sweet vanilla vermouth, salt and cacao dust.
