Any venue that can do coffee in the morning and a wagyu tri-tip in the evening is fine by me. Bellucci Cucina, a new all day eatery for the CBD, takes its cues from New York’s all encompassing Italian food culture and blending it with the busy energy of Sydney.
George Nahas, responsible for the CBD’s Romolo, SAL and The Naked Duck, has combined with Head Chef Teofilo Nobrega of Fratelli Paradiso fame to bring Bellucci Cucina to the city. The aim is to bring everything that you love about Italian food to any time of the day, whether that be the best contemporary Italian pastries, pastas, sandwiches or pizza.
The food rides the fine line of relaxed and refined; casual enough for a laid back lunch, sharp enough for supper and a cocktail with a client. It starts with colazione (breakfast), which ranges from a selection of pasticcini to scrambled eggs with Calabrian nduja and other Italian inflected breakfast classics to go along with your morning coffee.
Things then start to heat up with long lunches that turn into dinners. Bellucci start things off with a range of share plates that you would expect in any self-respecting Italian diner. Think Caprese salads, selections of cured meats and marinated olives with classic pasta dishes like lamb ragu pappardelle or a linguine granchio with crab, chilli and bottarga di muggine.
From 3 to 5pm it’s the golden hours, the famed afternoon apertivo time. With wood fired delicacies and classic traditional cocktails, tell the boss you have errands to run and sneak away from your desk for the afternoon for a snack and a drink.
If you’re after something a bit heavier for dinner, the wagyu steak with parmesan cream, mustard leaf and horseradish with a classic wood fired margherita with San Marzano tomatoes and fior di latte. Finish things off with a classic Italian nightcap and a tirmisu or a pannacotta
Bellucci laps up the hustle and the bustle of the CBD and uses it to exude quintessential Italian vivaciousness. Bellucci’s tight menu, service and Italian sensibilities play to the senses of all things Sydney siders love.
