The shiny new Stockade Brew Co has opened up its flashy new digs in the craft beer heartland of Marrickville. Boasting a functional brewery, expansive bar, dining space and tasting room, Stockade have pulled no punches in putting this all together.
Stockade Brew Co is the work of Anton Szpitalak, who launched his brewery in 2015. Since establishing himself in the craft beer world, he wanted to have somewhere for people to go and enjoy all that encompasses knocking back a cold one.
“Beer is our bread and butter at Stockade – it’s what we know and love best, so we wanted to create a venue that is not only serves our beers but celebrates beer on a wider level,” explains Szpitalak.
So beer is the name of the game and Stockade Brew Co have a whole team lined up of five sessionable beers alongside some limited editions, all created in house by Head Brewer Daniel Fardon. The bar will also have a number of revolving guest taps including Randall’s, Bucket Boys and 3 Ravens Brewing.
Stockade isn’t a one trick pony, with a range of wines from Urban Wintery Projects that are barrel aged and blended on site. If cocktails are more you, Stockade Brew Co have developed a range inspired by hops, the crucial ingredient in beer, that draw on the unique flavour characteristics of citrus, floral, pine and bitterness.
With all the beer, wine and cocktails, food will be needed. Stockade Brew Co will have monthly collaborators. Baby Rey’s take first duties, known for their Wild West Burger, they will be using some of Stockade Brew Co’s Mountie Stout in their maple bacon jam, while their chilli and cheese-loaded fries will come with Chop Shop Ale dressing. Keep yourself in the loop as pan-Asian BBQ truck Tsuru will take over in August, before Grease n’ Grind burgers in September and La Raza Mexican Cantina in October.
Designed by RAD Studios, Stockade has embraced its industrial surrounds, taking the old factory space and transforming it with blackbutt tables and green panelled booths as well as touting a cinema like menu board above the bar. It’s comfortable enough to bring a date or to just wind down. For Szpitalak and the rest of Stockade Brew Co, “It was equally important for us to create a space that also suits those who might not drink beer, but still want to come out and have a good time.”
