Since its launch in December last year, Upper East Side’s tropical feel has made it a Bondi mainstay. With a range of cocktails and small-plates, it’s a comfortable place to have a long liquid lunch with friends in the afternoon sun, stretching it out as DJ’s play in to the evening. The easy-breezy vibe of Upper East Side has embraced the change of season, changing their menu, and launching breakfast.
The breakfast will surprise you with its straight forward and honest approach, reflecting the mantra of Chef Jason Dean, to use fresh ingredients, and let the quality do the talking. The breakfast menu offers Fruit Bowls, Macadamia Muesli, Acai Bowls as well as traditional favourites, such as the Bacon and Egg roll or the Buttermilk Pancakes, where the tartness of the raspberries are balanced by the sweetness of the vanilla crème fraiche. There is also a traditional Big breakfast, aptly named “The Breakfast” which includes, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, tomato chutney and spicy beans, for a hearty way to start your day, or cure your hangover on a Sunday morning.
Sit in the sun, looking out towards the street with your coffee, or a range of their juices, like the Greench, with apple, kiwi and spinach, or the Ginger Stardust with carrot, orange and ginger and the change of seasons might not seem so bad. Everything feels a little bit sunnier, like a tropical holiday, and that’s the idea behind owner, Ussi Moniz Da Silva’s creation. Inspired by travels and his upbringing, it’s designed to have that “Oasis” vibe with its almost panoramic open glass windows, wicker furniture, and green tropical palms and climbing vines shading you from the fairy lights on the ceiling.
Breakfast runs from 8am – 3pm everyday, turning Upper East Side into an out-and-out all day destination, transitioning from the early mornings, to the night-time trade of share plates and cocktails. It’s a holiday, who says you can’t have it all?
