In the rush to tick things off the list before the end of last year, a sneaky opening made its way to Bondi Road, but lucky for us, this is looking to be more than just a summer fling. Combining the strengths of Mike Eggert and Khan Danis, Totti’s has settled into an indoor/outdoor space at Bondi local, The Royal.
Proving that a base roster of quality ingredients can produce a whole universe of creative interpretations, Totti’s takes the casual Italian concept of hand-made pasta, quality meats and iconic Italian cocktails, serves it up in a bright, light filled package and provides the perfect location for a languid summer evening.
The menu begins with wood-fired bread that can be topped with a number of single-ingredient options, including ‘nduja, burrata, tomato and marinated peppers. The pastas then provide an all in one solution with dishes including prawn casarecce, lamb ragu with pappardelle or fregola, calamari and mussels keeping things simple yet satisfying. If you are feeling a little more cooperative, the selection of mains such as wood-grilled fish, steak and roast chicken are made for many hands.
This concept from Merivale is a more permanent home for Mike Eggert, who temporarily graced us with his wild rendition of Italian fare at Mr Liquor’s Dirty Italian Disco pop up and previously for what felt like only a moment at Good Luck Pinbone in Kensington. Joining him on the coals is Khan Danis, who Merivale have poached from Rockpool to revitalise the food options at The Royal.
Describing the feeling of Totti’s, Eggert noted, “We just want people to come down, tuck into amazing food and have a great time. It’s as simple as that.”
