Multi-venue drinking and dining experience The Vicar, has opened its doors to the bucolic surrounds of Dural. With two distinct areas, the establish caters to those seeking a refined take on the classics, as well as looking towards the new possibilities of farm-to-table dining in these semi-rural surrounds.
Now open is the North Side. A relaxed space divided into a sports bar and a lounge here designer Hamish Gutherie has retained the elements that make for a great pub. A formula that has developed over centuries, perhaps millennia, an area that allows for a drink and a spectacle, or a beverage and conversation, is still the beating heart of this operation.
Working on the food side of things is executive chef Leigh McDivitt and food consultant Dave O’Brien. Realising their vision on the North Side through everyday pub classics, such as the classic cheese burger, schnitzel, steak and pizza, the team have also elevated all-time favourites, such as the The Vicar Caesar and Rubbed Kale Salad. Perfect for the sunnier times ahead, the dining area extends to the outdoor terrace, where the brisket bar will be in operation, wafting the smell of smoked meats.
Coming soon is the other half of the enterprise. Named the South Side, this will be where innovations in contemporary dining will occur. The already opened Wakefield’s dining restaurant and the shortly to arrive Mrs. Goldsmith’s Wine Bar draw on the region’s reputation for quality fresh produce and history of market gardens. Enjoy the shared plates of poultry, lamb and pork alongside the drinks menu, designed by Tim Philips, which in Mrs. Goldsmith’s wine bar opens up to European influences in cosy surrounds.
If this all sounds like more than what can be accomplished in one sitting, don’t fret. Accommodation options are on their way soon so that you can leisurely enjoy all that the area has to offer. With options for special events, owner Scott Whitehouse highlighted, “The Vicar is designed to have every occasion covered.”
