The Glenlivet have devised a tasty secret that they are asking you to reveal. Launching their new, limited edition single scotch malt whisky, The Glenlivet Code is the second whisky in their portfolio to be introduced to the market without any cask information or tasting notes. There are only 10 000 bottles worldwide, with 2000 bottles allocated for Australia, exclusive to Dan Murphy’s.
Crafted by Alan Winchester, the Master Distiller at The Glenlivet, The Code uses new techniques and specially selected casks to invoke a unique, smooth and mysterious whisky designed to test the senses of even the most experienced whisky drinker.
“We have been given a truly unique opportunity to create a new whisky that pushes the boundaries of what people think they know about Glenlivet,” said Alan. “The Glenlivet Code is a mystery, concealed in a labyrinth of secret flavours within its jet-black bottle. We’re excited to invite whisky fans to challenge their senses as they try to unlock The Code’s tasting notes and discover a moment of definitive pleasure”.
On Wednesday, July 18, guests were invited to Beta Bar in Sydney to taste The Glenlivet Code, and were challenged to try and unravel the mystery behind the whisky. Guests were given an envelope with a decoder inside, listing a range of tasting notes and intensities and handed a glass of The Glenlivet Code. Quickly guests were then escorted into a room filled with conical glass vessels that contained all of the associated tasting notes listed on the decoder, before being whisked away again in to another room of mystery where guests were given hints regarding the palette notes.
The Glenlivet are inviting you to crack the code, and whisky drinkers are being challenged to embark on a digital flavour journey. Simply scan the code on the back of your Glenlivet Code whisky bottle, using the Shazam app and enter the challenge. Contestants pick four aromas and four flavours and the intensity of each to be given a score based on how your tasting choices match the tasting notes of Master Distiller Winchester, and are ranked on a global leader board. The final tasting notes will be revealed at the end of the year.
