The Weekly Collection #77

Lady Gaga launches a beauty brand, Stella McCartney takes inspo from her Beatles dad, and Neuw releases a sustainable line of denim basics.

Lady Gaga Launches Haus Laboratories

This week, none other than Lady Gaga, singer, Academy award winner and all-round camp queen has announced the upcoming launch of her very own beauty brand. Haus Laboratories, which keen-eyed Gaga fans have anticipated for over a year now, was officially introduced to the world at large via Lady Gaga’s Instagram on Tuesday, via a vividly coloured, glitter-filled video. Sticking firmly to the star’s reputation for a love-yourself, you-do-you, born-this-way brand of eccentric style, Gaga’s video voiceover announces “they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but at Haus Laboratories we say beauty’s how you see yourself … we want you to love yourself”. In another Instagram post, Gaga explained her love for the transformative power of makeup and its role in her own journey of self-discovery, saying: “When I was young, I never felt beautiful … I've come to accept that I discovered my beauty by having the ability to invent myself and transform. They said I was just weird, but really, I was just Born This Way”. According to the Business of Fashion, Gaga’s beauty brand will launch in September with “multi-use colour items for cheeks, eyes and lips in six shade families and kits containing all three products priced at a relatively affordable $49 ($70 AUD)”. Good news for us Australians, too - we’re one of nine countries included in the launch, and the brand will be sold via Amazon, meaning one and two-day shipping is available for those who are impatient to get their Gaga goods as soon as possible. Pre-orders will be available from July 15th via the Haus website: https://www.hauslabs.com/.

Stella McCartney’s New Collection Pays Tribute to The Beatles

Fashion maven Stella McCartney is paying tribute to the 1968 iconic cult film “Yellow Submarine” in her newest collection, titled “All Together Now”. Yellow Submarine, an animated fantastical psychedelic trip of a film which marked its fiftieth anniversary last year, was the second Beatles film. Beatle Sir Paul McCartney is of course the father of Stella, who said she gained inspiration for the collection at an anniversary screening last year: “It affected me in a way I just wasn’t expecting. Especially this idea of connecting people and bringing people together—politically this message has never been more relevant. So, I came out and I was like ‘I have to do something’”. The collection was officially launched this week via Stella McCartney’s Instagram, with a trippy accompanying video featuring up-and-coming musicians  KEYAH/BLU, Joy Crookes, Oscar Jerome and Femi Koleoso adorned in pieces from the collection and interacting with animations from the film. The collection, which spans womens, mens and kids ready-to-wear, and brings “fun, fantasy and psychedelia of The Beatles’ iconic film ‘Yellow Submarine’ back to life, sharing its message of peace, love and togetherness with a new generation”. Neuw Denim Releases Sustainable Line

Aussie denim brand Neuw have released a new line of sustainable denim wear to satisfy your ethical fashion needs. Described on their site as a “premium sustainable denim collection”, the range boasts “ZERO water wasted, ZERO chemical distressing, ZERO washing waste”. So how have these claims been achieved? Water used in Neuw’s manufacturing process is recycled and renewed so that wasteful water isn’t “discharged as contaminated sewage into the water grid”. They’ve also forgone the use of harmful chemicals in denim distressing processes, opting instead for hand-stitching, brushing and grinding prior to washing to create your fave distressed look without the nasty side-effects. Neuw has also adopted synthetic stones rather than traditional pumice in the washing process itself, thus leaving “no sludge behind” which allows water to be cleaned and recycled more efficiently. These steps taken to reduce the brand’s carbon footprint are sure to be well received within the current environment of increasingly environmentally-conscious consumers. And in addition to the feel-good vibes of buying sustainable clothing, you can rest assured that the Zero collection is chock full of 14 amazing pieces - from jeans, to jackets, to skirts and overalls. Basically, your denim needs are sorted. Check out the collection here: https://neuwdenim.com/zero-story.
