The Weekly Collection #6

This year’s Fashion Awards, sexual harassment allegations against photographer Bruce Weber, a Gucci Research Lab and another sample sale to your list of sales this holiday season.

The Fashion Awards 2017

This year’s Fashion Awards was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London – an event held in partnership with Swarovski – honouring international names and brands who have made an outstanding contribution to the industry this year.

Model of the Year went to Adwoa Aboah, who was the cover-person for Edward Enniful’s first issue as Editor in Chief of Vogue UK and next issue’s contributing editor for Vogue. Celebrated designer, Raf Simons won the coveted Designer of the Year 2017, while Stella McCartney won the new Special Recognition Award for Innovation. Memorably, the tribute for Azzedine Alaïa was presented by Naomi Campbell and the late Franca Sozzani was honoured by Maria Grazia Chiuri of Dior.

Céline launching an online shop

A French e-commerce site has been launched by Céline, now offering all product categories as purchasable online. It is expected that from the initial launch in France, Europe and US will follow in 2018, followed by Japan in 2019.
It’s expected that the e-commerce launch won’t extend far below the equator, with Céline only recently launching their retail stores in Australia.

Bruce Weber and sexual assault

Fashion photographer, Bruce Weber, has been accused by two male models of sexual harassment while on the job. Models Jason Boyce and Mark Ricketson shared similar stories of harassment, with both refraining to speak out in fear of being blacklisted from the industry.

This case doesn’t come as a surprise to many, with many stories of sexual assault and harassment being shared through social media. Allegations come amongst those against director Harvey Weinstein and photographer Terry Richardson.

Gucci Research Lab

Following the launch of a fashion retail management master’s degree co-designed by Italian fashion school Polimoda and Gucci, a Gucci research lab in partnership with Bocconi University in Milan is in the works. The three-year partnership will be headed by a Lab Director and four research professors, with a position paper published at the end of each year by these academics. Students will study industry trends as well as how the fashion industry and the organisations within it are evolving throughout the 21st century.
