We’re really excited to launch BYO Presents Summer Sounds with a playlist from a motley crew who’ve been bringing Sydney the best in local and international electronica for there last three years, everybody’s favourite party boys Astral People. They have smashed it, as usual, this year, opening 2014 with their very first Witness showcase, before hosting a packed out 3rd Birthday bash at Goodgod, announcing yet another stellar line up for OutsideIn Festival and launching their latest venture, Summer Dance.
For their Summer Sounds playlist, Astral People have chosen to focus their attentions on the artists that will be gracing the decks at Summer Dance throughout December, January and February, capturing perfectly the atmosphere you’re likely to encounter should you be lucky enough to score tickets to one, or more, of the six shows on offer. Without further ado, please enjoy the first instalment of BYO Presents Summer Sounds, thanks to our good buddies over at Astral People.
Perth band Braves have put together this spring themed mixtape for your listening pleasure. Hit play and enjoy.
What Alex from Braves has to say…
“As far as i'm concerned, Australia's Spring is everyone else's Summer. September to November lie in that sweet spot where the skies are blue, but the sun doesn't seem less than a kilometre away. Some of my best memories of Summer were actually days in Spring I got confused about. Basically Spring's the best month we got, it's the Summer we deserve, and this playlist reflects that.
We're really directly inspired by guitar music more than anything else, we love bands that sound like they were more concerned with writing an excellent song than making sure the production was squeaky clean. There's early material from Cloud Nothings in here, back when he was still making sweet bratty jams exploring modern suburbia, as well as infectious garage pop from one of our favourite Perth bands, Thee Gold Blooms. There's my current favourite song from PAWS, the most American Scottish band you'll ever hear, and a track from the amazing (and sadly broken-up) Harlem.”
BRAVES just released their newest EP, Seapunk, which is a mish-mash of styles and sounds, but with a strong focus on hooks and catchiness above all. The EP is a pay what you want download on bandcamp right now, but you can stream the whole thing on our soundcloud too. https://brvs.bandcamp.com/album/seapunk
