FBi Art Auction

Keen to support independent, local radio and also get your mitts on some art by prominent Australian artists? If yes then head on over to the National Art School on Tuesday night for the third FBi Art Auction. Artists who have donated their works include Reg Mobassa, Janet Laurence and Ken Done. Last held in 2010, artworks sold for between $1000 and $5000 so here could be a chance to pick up a reasonably-priced masterpiece.

Kate Vassallo – Chance Forms

Sometimes the simplest processes can lead to the most beautiful art forms. Kate Vassallo’s process might be built from simple starting blocks, however the results are exquisite. Using hand-drawn lines begun by chance encounters, Vassallo’s works both reveal the beauty in the symmetrical repetition of nature and also the inevitable imperfections that result from the human hand.

Opening on February 23, the exhibition continues until March 4.

Alex Wright – Bertha

Starting from the photographic archive of her aunt’s trip through the United States aboard a van named Bertha, Alex Wright enquires into our understanding of the American Road Trip as an escape from the world and a redeeming journey. Situating itself in a nostalgic view of the past, this exhibition also points towards the way in which we use images to remember certain elements of the past and how they shape our understanding of events.

The exhibition opens on February 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
