Small Voices is the creative efforts of Sydney-based producer Jack Perry who hails from far north NSW, near Byron. His newest effort comes in the form of ‘Russian Letter Syndrome’, which achieves much in its pared-back, chilled simplicity.
Like the smooth curl of the lip of a wave Perry’s synths and backing vocals splash and wash beneath the tunes foregrounded melody - sounded by plucky guitars. Subdued vocals contend with pessimism while exploring ideas of escapism, enacted by reverie.
Simply put, the luscious soundscape of this badboy is pure ‘bonfires by the beach under the silvery glow of the coastal moon’ as much as it is ‘coming down in some backyard in some concrete jungle after a house party’. At a modest 222 plays on soundcloud ‘Russian Letter Syndrome’ by Small Voices is an undiscovered gem, one that will be welcomed wherever the vibe of a ‘vacant chill’ is required.
